General Terms and Conditions

Submission of an entry implies acceptance of these Terms and Conditions. Failure to comply may result in disqualification.

Please read and comply with the eligibility requirements, rules and instructions for each category on the Poems on the Move website: https://poemsonthemove.com

If any provision of these Terms and Conditions is found to be unlawful, invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

All personal information submitted through the Poems on the Move website will be processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

These Terms and Conditions are governed by Guernsey law.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions affects your statutory rights.

Entry Conditions

By entering, you confirm that:

●        you are aged 11+

●        the submitted work is entirely your own original work

The Guernsey International Poetry Competition reserves the right to disqualify any entry that breaches these conditions.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, The Guernsey International Poetry Competition shall not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the website or participation in the competition.

Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The Guernsey International Poetry Competition is committed to recognising and rewarding original human creativity.

AI tools may be used only to identify spelling and grammar issues. They must not be used to suggest, rewrite, restructure, paraphrase, summarise, develop or generate any creative wording or content.

The creative conception, expression, structure and wording of an entry must be entirely the work of the entrant.

By entering, authors confirm that their submission complies with these requirements.

Where concerns arise regarding authorship, originality or compliance with these rules, the organisers may request additional information from an entrant about the development of their work.

Failure to provide satisfactory information may result in disqualification, withdrawal of awards or publication, and reassignment of prizes where appropriate.

The Guernsey International Poetry Competition reserves the right to amend this policy in response to developments in AI technology and industry best practice.

Eligibility

Entrants must be aged 11+ at the time of submission. Entries must be written in English and must meet the rules for the category entered.

Originality and ownership

Entries must be the entrant’s own original work. Entrants are responsible for making sure their work does not infringe anyone else’s copyright or rights.

Any evidence that the work is not the entrant’s own may result in immediate disqualification.

Anonymous judging and disqualification

Entries are judged anonymously. Do not include your name, contact details, website, social media handles or other identifying information in the document or file name.

Entries that include identifying details, exceed the length limit, are incomplete, are submitted in the wrong category, breach the AI rules, or otherwise do not follow the rules may be disqualified.

Publication status and simultaneous submissions

Poetry entries must not have been published, self-published, published on any website, blog or online forum, broadcast, or won or placed in another competition. Longlisted or shortlisted entries are eligible if they have not won a prize and have not been published.

Simultaneous submissions are allowed, but entries become ineligible if they win a prize elsewhere or are published before prize giving. Entry fees will not be refunded.

Entrants must inform the Guernsey International Poetry Competition immediately if their entry is published or wins a prize elsewhere.

Fees, refunds and withdrawals

Entry fees are non-refundable.

Entries may be withdrawn by emailing [email protected], but fees are not refunded.

Please make sure your entry is complete and final before submitting. If you withdraw and resubmit a corrected version, a further entry fee will be payable.

What happens if I make a mistake?

Please check your entry carefully before submitting. We cannot amend or replace files after submission.

If you submit the wrong version or spot a mistake before the deadline, you may withdraw your entry and submit again. A new entry fee will be payable.

If you notice a mistake after the deadline, your original submission will remain your entry and cannot be changed.

Judging process

The judges’ decision is final.

Judges cannot comment on individual entries.

The Guernsey International Poetry Competition may change judges if necessary.

Prizes and awards

Prize details and additional awards are listed in the category rules above.

The Guernsey International Poetry Competition may amend prizes where necessary and will post any changes on the website.

●        Open Category: £1,000 for all poets worldwide

●        Channel Islands Category: £250

●        Young People’s Category: £250

Copyright

Copyright in all submitted work remains with the author.

However, entrants grant The Guernsey International Poetry Competition a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to publish winning and highly commended entries on the website, any digital or print publications, and in promotional materials related to the competition.

Moral rights

Any moral rights associated with each entry remain with the author and will be respected by The Guernsey International Poetry Competition.

Publicity

Winners and highly commended may be asked to provide a biography, photograph or other publicity information. The Guernsey International Poetry Competition may use this information to promote the competition and its results.

Privacy

All personal information submitted through the Guernsey International Poetry Competition website will be processed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

Changes to rules, judges, prizes or policies

The Guernsey International Poetry Competition may amend rules, judges, prizes or policies where necessary. Any important changes will be posted on the website.

Liability

The Guernsey International Poetry Competition is not responsible for entries that are lost, delayed, incomplete, corrupted or not received because of technical problems, payment problems or entrant error.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the Guernsey International Poetry Competition shall not be liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the website or participation in the competition. Nothing in these Terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence.

Governing law

These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of Guernsey.

Nothing in these Terms and Conditions affects your statutory rights.
