Bold

How much courage does it take to buy
daffodils when you’re nine decades in,
when they’ll be sitting impatiently

in a yellow mesh sack in the shed
longing for weeks of winter oblivion
confidently hungering for darkness?

Are you sustained by their quickening
hearts, thirsting for the day they break
ground and rise, blazing?
