Silly Caterpillar

it’s year three and bedtime, I peer through my blinds
and wish to be tall

it’s twelve years down the line, I drive home
the street shines like it’s trying to be noticed, to remind
me of the wishes made from windows at night

it’s tomorrow and the road glows orange over black
and dad says dementia means the person won’t come back.
