Poems on the Buses Exhibition

I cover my eyes at the accident on the road.
A man my son’s age running along the highway,
his plaid shirt flapping, his long hair
tied back and coming loose. I cover my eyes.
There is so much I don’t want to see.
Let's keep going, climb higher into the range,
where clouds journey over broken horizons,
make their layering smoke between trees,
this perilous landscape empty of anything human.
