Flak

The pattern round the hole in the windowpane looks like a snowflake cut from cellophane. Snow scar or scatter from a nine mil bore, I stay back in case more fall. The marks on your left rib have faded to a net of pale red ink, a finely needled claret hidden under your chest hair. Even so, I can’t forget the flake that settled there.
